I've just spent the last half hour on award winning architect Joe Chindarsi's website. His work is a combination of commercial, multi and single residential building projects and renovations. The above pics are some of my favourites of his completed works. There is also a lot amazing designs in his 'under construction' menu. Well worth a look. Chindarsi is also known for his environmentally sustainable design principles. His 'Winter Cottage' in Bridgetown won the RAIA WA chapter award for Ecological Sustainable Development in 2006.

I was immediately charmed by The Lotus Pond by Sally Stewart at the entrance of the WA Art Gallery. It was by far my favourite 2010 Art in Bloom installation. The exhibition this year was full of colour, substance and creativity. ps.. I'd love one or two floating in the pool, absolutely gorgeous.

I met M&G recently and worked with them to create a bathroom design to suit their taste and needs. Last summer they spent a few days down at Quay West Bunker Bay Resort and loved the bathroom (above) designed by Grounds Kent Architects. In particular they liked the walk-in shower.

M&G's design came together quiet nicely; double vanity - Laufen Living Dual Wash Basin (cabinetry - custom made), Love Me Basin Mixers, heated towel rails - DC Short Scarpa Heated Rails and a lovely long walk in shower - Hansgrohe Unica Shower Rail and Love Me Wall Mixer. The bathroom is tiled from floor to ceiling. Two tall, slim line mirrors are placed on either side of the vanity. This is particularly useful as it allows them to get close to the mirror for make-up application and shaving. Extra open storage was created in a recess shelf beside the window. This balanced the wall as the window could not be moved.

I came across these gorgeous side tables by French designer Sam Baron which then led me to his website. Wow...definitely worth a look. His attention to detail and fine french chic shines through every piece. He is interested and inspired by the past. The Philippe-i side tables appealed to me because of their elegant design and how easy they appear to be to place in a home. Either 1 or in a set of two. Another design that popped out at me was the Marie - Louise console. It is made of wood and laser cut lace. The porcelain vase from the Royal Actual collection has a baroque connection - delicate and rich. A vase that does not require any flowers!

This exhibition is an absolute must! I've been going for the past 10 years (bi-annually) and have thoroughly enjoyed it. The Art Gallery of Western Australia is filled with thousands of artistically arranged flowers which this year reflects the works from the State Art Collection. It's creative, colourful and heavenly scented - Art in Bloom 2010.

I stopped by Ikea the other day. There are few new bits and pieces, here's one that caught my eye. The Tradig bowl. Imagine a kilo or two of shiny Granny Smiths or Golden Delicious apples piled up high in there. Gorgeous. Or perhaps if you like a bit of DYI...it could be quiet a funky pendant light shade. Turn the bowl upside, add long black cord and round white light bulb. The bowl is heavy, ensure that your fixings can support the weight of the bowl.

I've just finished working on this bathroom design for FR. FR had a classic brief, "I never use the bath but my partner does and she would love a free standing bath. I want something unique with the wow factor". The bathroom is 2500mm x 2500mm. I immediately went to the Ios Bath from Victoria & Albert. It's a beautiful, deep (518mm) and seamless bath. The size was perfect 1500mm! Next, the wash basin. I wanted to find something simple and beautiful as it was positioned directly opposite the entry to the bathroom. The Annelie basin from Dado was the perfect fit. It's quiet a striking contemporary pedestal. For the 'unique' factor I chose the Icon Floor Mounted Bath/Basin Filler. It sits between the bath and pedestal and allows the user to swivel the spout towards either the bath or basin. To address storage, I suggested a custom made, wall hung unit. 2 long draws (1000mm), floating on the wall, complimented with a baroque style mirror above. Hansgrohe Raindance Fixed Shower Head and Hand Shower ensured FH didn't miss out on a fantastic showering experience. The Raindance Air technology combines 3 litres of air with every litre of water. The air/water combination generates millions of invigorating soft raindrops. Lastly, the WC. Villeroy & Boch Subway BTW suite with soft close seat and Ceramic Plus finished the selection perfectly.

This stunning bath is from Parisi. The Io Free Standing bath makes quiet a statement and would definitely be the 'wow' factor in a large bathroom. The overall length of the bath with the shelf is 2000mm (bath alone 1930mm). The shelf is available in range of colours and is made of a composite resin material.

The exhibition exceeded my expectations, Emma's artworks are absolutely gorgeous. "Spirit of Place" is on for the next few weeks.

I friend of mine with a great eye brought this beauty to my attention. The Edra Chantilly Round and Oval sofa. Dsigned by Inga Sempe and presented in the Milan Furniture Show in 2007. It reminds me of the humble bean bag, but with a whole lot of seducing 'designer' style. The fabric is loose fitting. It flows, folds, cascades and has a beautiful sheen. Satin of course! I'm crazy for that beautiful mural at Barolo's. The richness of the colours and that old world charm are divine. The menu and wine selection looks good to. I was suprised to see that they are open for breakfast. I'm looking forward to sitting by the mural and ordering the bruschetta of vine tomato, pearl bocconcini, spiced avocado and poached egg followed by their warm belgium waffles with maple sabayon and vanilla gelato.

Design in the Park is a trade show for those involved in the architecture and design industry in Perth. Complimentary shuttle buses ran on a pre-arranged route throughout the afternoon and evening transporting participants to over 20 showrooms in Osborne Park. Each showroom presented the best and latest in design. Of course there was lots of refreshments and canapes to keep participants nourished and hydrated along the way. The above pics are a snap shot of the afternoon and evening fun at Sea of White.

I think I have GOLD fever. The 'sparkle' trend in homeware, lighting, bedding, clothing and shoes is unavoidable. It seems everywhere you look you see embellishment. If it's not sparkling it's studded. Newform's X-sense with the Swarovski crystals embedded in the basin mixer is my absolute favourite. Followed closely by Gessi Mimi. It's tall and feminine silhouette is so, so beautiful. The Swan range from Astra Walker will certainly challenge you. In the right house, with the right bathroom it will sit grandly and demand respect. Even Ikea has introduced a gold kitchen mixer. I love its simplicity. Imagine it in a completely black kitchen. Wow!

Soap dispenser or soap holder??? Which one are you? Well in my household I have both. Recently I came across these stylish pieces from Eva Solo (designed by Claus Jensen and Henrik Holbaek). The soap dispenser has concealed pump which is the point of difference compared to the vast range of soap dispensers on the market. As for the magnet soap holder, WOW, I have no idea how this works, but I know I want one. The soap is attached to the magnet vertically away from the wall, the soap almost looks like it is floating in the air, and keeps residue well away from the wall. This is a floor plan for my client MM. This bathroom doubles as an ensuite to the master bedroom and has 2 doorways. MM's brief was to create luxurious bathroom with a corner bath or spa, wall hung vanity with as much storage as possible. Here's the bathroom I proposed to MM. A corner bath from Kaldewei which has a magnificent curved front panel. This opened up the floor space perfectly. The Punta Duo bath is a porcelain on steel bath.The Punta Duo bath with panel cannot accommodate Multipoint Hydrotherapy Systems so I opted for a massaging shower. The Raindance Allrounder shower head offers 3 jet hand shower, overhead and body shower features. It's unique adjustable holder allows a full range of positions from overhead to body shower. The Variable (1000 x 510mm) wall hung vanity from Villeroy & Boch complimented the curved Punta Duo and was an easy choice. Extra storage was created with a shaving cabinet from Marbletrend.

Lastly the tapware, MM chose the Grohe Touch basin mixer and shower mixer. She loved the design of the handle.

I didn't realise how much I love Patricia Urquiola's work until one day I noticed that I had collected so many images of her designs. I find that I'm drawn to her patterns and textures. The Crinoline Chair is my absolute favourite. The contrast and balance between the flowery pattern and linearity is quiet beautiful. Patricia Urquiola is a Spanish born architect / designer who resides and works in Milan. Here is how she describes her style: "I’m quite eclectic, varied and diverse. I like to think in different scales at the same time, in architecture and design. I’m interested in behavior structures, artisan techniques,certain aspects of memory... aspects of my life." I have just spent a week in a comfortable, practical beach house in Moore River. And as much as I tried not to think about it, all I could think about was how wonderful the interior would look painted white. Walls, floors, the lot. A touch of that shabby chic look but not to much. For me it would have made it a real escape. The location was fab, ocean views, lots of space to spread out and wonder about. Maybe one day I'll have the opportunity to have a gorgeous beach house for my family. In the meantime I'll keep collecting beautiful inspiration images.

You are probably familiar with these divine black and white plates by Italian graphic artist and designer, Pierro Fornasetti. Once he began to make them he never stopped, eventually it became his trademark. I must admit they have had an effect on me, I can't stop looking at all the different variations. They have a Mona Lisa charm about them. I have one piece (not an original of course), already I feel the need to buy more. I feel an addiction lurking. Here are two concepts for a client whose brief was simply as follows "when I walk past the bathroom and look in, I want to see a beautiful basin". Concept 1 features the generously sized IO inset basin. It is designed to sit within the shelf. The organic curve of the underside of the basin is the eye catching factor. Next was the tapware and shower. Here again, I looked for curves. The El-X wall mixer and spout has a soft curve on the spout and the oval shaped back plate mimics the shape of the basin. For the shower I chose the Freehander for its tubular design. Plus it offers 'spa' like features. The shower pivots and rotates. Swing it up or swing it down, that's all it takes to to convert this shower into a body massage spray. Concept 2 (below) features the bold Alessi One Pedestal. The pedestal has a strong focal point ... the smooth, glossy white ceramic drum like shape has a timeless appeal.

The circular Piatto shower base (150cmx6cm) from Kaldewei is absolutely striking. It appears of be floating on the floor. And how about that gorgeous, luxurious shower curtain. It's all so dreamy. Hang on a minute...alarm bells are ringing. Shower bases and shower curtains are rarely described as luxurious. I do have faint memories of a dull, scratched shower base and mouldy shower curtain from many many years ago. Here's what they say: The shower plate is made of Kaldewei steel enamel. You can't scratch it if you tried. And the curtain is Teflon-coated taffeta with concealed magnets in the hem. This ensures the curtain falls straight and flush with the shower edge. It comes in 3 colours - bordeaux red, anthracite and chamois beige. And if still one requires more, the Superplans can be embellished with 24-karat gold plating on your request. Something strange has happened to me since the push to rid our planet of the dreaded plastic shopping bag. Once upon a time I would not give the plastic bag I was carrying a second thought. I would carry my groceries home in them, then re-use the bags as rubbish bin liners. THEN....the tote bag arrived. These two items from Rocket St George in London really appeal to me. I love the idea of giving a traditional piece of furniture a contemporary twist. The hand made Cuckoo Clock is designed in Italy by the famous clock manufacturers Diamantini and Domeniconi. It takes D batteries and the cuckoo can be switched off....not that you would! The Skullduggery chair would look right at home at my place and be a real talking point to boot.

More Ikea...I adore these two pieces from Ikea, haven't spotted them in our local store yet but I'm sure they're not too far away. The Ikea PS Karljohan side table is made of solid wood. It could double up as foot stool to. I can imagne it working well in the bathroom, perhaps loaded with fluffy towels. I love the leg design on the Trollsta Tray Table. The turned legs seem to have reference to an antique furniture style. The tray is removable and has an extra wide edge and high sides; prevents spills and makes it easy to carry.

This beautiful floral and fauna curtain panel by Tord Boontje would look wonderful hanging over my fly wire screen door. The panels are made from Tyvek (resistant paper material). The panel is tear and water resistant. Until Dawn (H250cm x W110cm) comes with velcro closure loops as well as holes to hang from hooks or poles. Just what a DYI sort of gal likes to hear. Here is a bathroom concept and selection I have been working on for a lovely couple who are building the new home in Doubleview. The concept image is not fully detailed, however it still managers to show them how it all will look on completion. The gorgeous semi-recessed basins are from Parisi and Amio basin mixers are from Methven. The Unica 900mm shower rail from Hansgrohe and the Amio shower mixer complete the shower cubicle.

I was speaking to a designer from down Margaret River way the other week and she mentioned that she loves Ross Lovegrove's Tear Drops shower head and asked if I had seen it. Well, no I hadn't but after a few minutes of 'googling' I was up to speed and wow it's amazing and like nothing I've seen before. His designs are described as "organic essentialism" and yes they are fluid and they relate to the natural world in a futuristic way.

Florence Broadhurst, Her Secret & Extraordinary Lives book has been out for sometime now. And of course it is loved and reviewed on many many blogs. My copy has been read, loved, used as a reference and inspiration over and over again. I particularly like to have it open on a certain page which tends to reflect what sort of mood I'm in or perhaps what sort of mood I want to be in. The the last few weeks I have it opened on the pages 70 & 71 --- Horses Stampede. I also like to encourage everyone else in the house to leave the book open on a page that they love. Her designs are vivid, daring and challenging. I suppose the more these designs thrill you the more you realise how tired and restricted the minimalist look of the late 90's was. As we have seen Florence Broadhurst wallpaper designs have jumped from the wall to pillows, rugs, curtains, handbags and even coffee mugs. I loving it all! Currently on my wishlist is a set of Japanees Floral coffee mugs (red).

His exhibitions are always 'out of town', Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane, Broome etc. Unfortunately, I never seem to be in the same city or town. I look forward to seeing his paintings in person one day, but until then I'm happy to admire them from my computer.

Here is our latest design and build. My other half was inspired by the existing pool and then went on to design a cantilevered 2 two storey home. This is a computer rendering of the home we then went on to build.

The tiles throughout the home are from Crosby Tiles, the kitchen finishes are from Laminex and bathroom fittings from Sea of White. The home is now for sale. She is down to earth, friendly, helpful and generous. She popped some foundation on me and suggested I go home and see what a thought. Her products and showroom are gorgeous. My family and I happened to come across a photo shoot one day whilst walking the dog (not the above shoot). The stylist and photographer kindly allowed us to stay and watch. It was interesting to see the process and to appreciate how much work it takes to bring it all together. Since then we check out Mara Fox's work in the Sunday Times Newspaper - New Homes section. Each piece is created from one piece of Alucobond and weigh less than 25kg making them easier to move than most sculptures of a comparable size. Chair Make-Over

I finally got around to re-covering this old office chair we have had for years. You can get a glimpse of it's original look from the first picture. Yep, ugly! It was a little tricky without a pattern but not impossible. I picked up the fabric from Spotlight for $25 p/m and with my trusty staple gun completed the project over a few days. Now I am on the hunt for some trim to cover the staples on the back rest.

Wow...I adore these bathroom designs by Helena Farrell of ID Interior Designers. So glamorous, so stylish, so elegant. Marble tiles and Bisazza glass mosaic feature walls appear to be her trademark. She has selected high quality fittings and it has paid off beautifully. The divine venetian mirrors over the vanity are from Baker & Shuhandler and the gilt bevelled mirror is from Scurrs Antiques. Her home is featured in the Autumn 2009 issue of Perth Habitat & Lifestyle magazine.

I really like this new kitchen mixer from Franke ... the Planar TA7800 with 'light'. There are a few kitchen mixers on the market with lights. Such as KWC , Newform and Gessi. These models have the light in the aerator section. So when you turn the water on a blue (cold water) or red light (hot water) is visible. There are no coloured lights with the Planar, just a good clear light which lights up your sink area. Want to see one? Sea of White in Osborne Park is the place to go.

I'm loving this home office featured in Inside Out (magazine) this month. Fabulous bit of styling and how groovy is that carousel storage unit. It's from Quintessential DuckeggBlue. I am in the middle of decorating and organising what is known to most people as the 'home office'. But, for me it's a shrine, a place of worship, a place where everything I love and want is gathered in the one place. It is a place where I receive inspiration and I place where I believe dreams can come true. Phew...now that was a bit heady. But I must admit I do treat it as shrine, I don't even sort the mail, pay bills and sort all the household paper work from my shrine. I have another desk where all that stuff gets sorted. I will post some pics of my little shrine as it comes together.

Tranquil Celadon

I'm am really excited about this beautiful wallpaper which I am hoping to use in a new house we are building. It's a Graham Brown paper designed by Linda Barker. It is described as a "pretty floral pattern characterised with playful birds and butterflies". Yes, yes it is, but what about the colour combination, that's what drew me in first. The background colour is a soft dreamy mint and the floral pattern is a satin silver foil (computer images does not do it justice). It radiates a calming cool feeling. I can't stop looking at it. Wall Candy Wallpaper are opening a new store in Highgate (Beaufort Street, just down the road from the Brisbane Hotel) and I have just been told that they are throwing open their doors tomorrow with a little sale to get things going. Of course there will be an official opening later down the track but for those of you like me that can't wait and don't mind that the store is not quite finished there are rewards of 20% off!

Recently I submitted this bathroom design into the Crosby Tiles 'Student' Competition. It was quite interesting to submit work and be prepared to be judged. My theme was "I Love New York"and I drew my colour inspiration from the New York yellow cabs. The whole bathroom is tiled in glittering black Murano Glass mosaics. I adore black bathrooms, there is something mysterious and glamorous about them. The feature wall has a Tuxedo colour theme over the bathtub and appears to flow into the bath and over the edge. I chose a fabulous chandelier from Beacon Lighting, the Pinnacle to sit over the bath. I like the idea of blurring the line between bathroom and bedroom. Behind the wall is the business side of the bathroom with his and hers vanity and double shower cubicle. The wall hung vanity provides a burst of colour and showcases the counter top vanity design from Laufen's Alessi range and amazing tap ware from Newform all available from Sea of White in Perth.
