I was speaking to a designer from down Margaret River way the other week and she mentioned that she loves Ross Lovegrove's Tear Drops shower head and asked if I had seen it. Well, no I hadn't but after a few minutes of 'googling' I was up to speed and wow it's amazing and like nothing I've seen before. His designs are described as "organic essentialism" and yes they are fluid and they relate to the natural world in a futuristic way.

Black in the Bathroom
Is black as safe as white in the bathroom? Porcelain white basins/baths are universal, no matter what your preferred style is, you can never go wrong. Does this apply to black? I think it just might. Here's the Ellipso free standing bath in black from Kaldewei and Villroy & Boch Memento basins (glossy black and New Glory).

Jamie Hayon
Jamie Hayon is a fantastic designer, he always offers the 'wow' factor. The Josephine Queen Chandeliers and Lamps are amazing. I adore the balance and combination of the glossy porcelain bases and shades. There is something provocative about the shape. Something irresistible.

Florence Broadhurst
Cranes,
Japanese Floral,
Horse Stampede,
Solar,
Turnabout,
Honeycombe
Circle and Squares,
Florence Broadhurst, Her Secret & Extraordinary Lives book has been out for sometime now. And of course it is loved and reviewed on many many blogs. My copy has been read, loved, used as a reference and inspiration over and over again. I particularly like to have it open on a certain page which tends to reflect what sort of mood I'm in or perhaps what sort of mood I want to be in. The the last few weeks I have it opened on the pages 70 & 71 --- Horses Stampede. I also like to encourage everyone else in the house to leave the book open on a page that they love.
Her designs are vivid, daring and challenging. I suppose the more these designs thrill you the more you realise how tired and restricted the minimalist look of the late 90's was.
As we have seen Florence Broadhurst wallpaper designs have jumped from the wall to pillows, rugs, curtains, handbags and even coffee mugs. I loving it all! Currently on my wishlist is a set of Japanees Floral coffee mugs (red).

I've just started window shopping for a table lamp and came across this sweetie from Matt Blatt. The Rory Lamp is 62cm high and has a satin black iron base. It is on sale for $65. Matt Blatt has a huge range of replica designer furniture, lighting, and accessories. Definitely worth a browse.

Flouncy by Waldemar Kolbusz, $1,400.00
Waldemar Kolbusz is one of my favourite artists. I love, love, love his work. His current work (oil on canvas) will be on show between 15 May and 07 June at Libby Edwards Galleries in Brisbane. Even though Waldemar Kolbusz lives in the same city as I do, I have never been to one of his exhibitions. Hard to believe considering I have loved his work ever since I first saw a small review in Vogue Living many years ago. His exhibitions are always 'out of town', Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane, Broome etc. Unfortunately, I never seem to be in the same city or town. I look forward to seeing his paintings in person one day, but until then I'm happy to admire them from my computer.

Royalvkb French Carafe Set
Loving this practical idea. Especially when we enterntain in our alfresco area.
The design of this Carafe is based on the old famous French glasses that everybody knows. Stack the glasses in the neck and you have one hand free when you carry it around. Faithfully re-created to reflect the original basic forms of the French glasses the carafe and glasses are pressed (not hand blown!) to maintain the authentic inexpensive manufacturing process. Available from Top3.

Here is our latest design and build. My other half was inspired by the existing pool and then went on to design a cantilevered 2 two storey home. This is a computer rendering of the home we then went on to build.
Computer Rendering
The finished home.
I was involved with the interior finishes and colours. The interior colour scheme is white and cool greys. The tiles throughout the home are from Crosby Tiles, the kitchen finishes are from Laminex and bathroom fittings from Sea of White. The home is now for sale. It has certainly been our most adventurous design to date.

Real Bathrooms
$15000 Winner 2008
$1000 Winner 2007
I really enjoy looking over Reece's Inspirational Bathrooms. It's well worth spending some time looking through all the different designs. These are real bathrooms. There is a gap between real bathrooms and displays shown in magazines and product shots. Take a look and see what I mean. Each design shows additional images, a floor plan and links to the products.
Reece run a bathroom competition rewarding the best bathrooms with cash. The grand prize is $15000.
Reece Your Bathroom. Your Life.
So if you’ve recently created a bathroom you’re proud of, you could be in the running to win up to $15,000 in cash and one of two monthly $1,000 Reece vouchers. All you have to do is send Reece some photos of your new bathroom and tell us in 50 words or less why your bathroom is special to you. Entries for the monthly prizes close on the 1st of each month in April and May 2009 and the grand prize on the 1st June 2009.

Sculptures by Ken Sealey
My very talented other half created these amazing garden sculptures. Each piece is created from one piece of Alucobond and weigh less than 25kg making them easier to move than most sculptures of a comparable. Each piece starts as a Marquette made from a postcard folded and cut to form a 3D shape. The design is then reinterpreted into larger size. Click here to see more of his work.

Franke Planar
I really like this new kitchen mixer from Franke ... the Planar TA7800 with 'light'. There are a few kitchen mixers on the market with lights. Such as KWC , Newform and Gessi. These models have the light in the aerator section. So when you turn the water on a blue (cold water) or red light (hot water) is visible. There are no coloured lights with the Planar, just a good clear light which lights up your sink area. Want to see one? Sea of White in Osborne Park is the place to go.

Wall Hung Vanity
Basins can make a big difference to the overall look of a bathroom. I love these images, they demonstrate clearly what goes through your mind when trying to choose bathroom fittings. "What would this one look like? What about this one? Does this one look better than that?" As you can see all three vessels work. Problem, well I love all three! Still can't choose. Images from Casa Idea magazine.

Modern Morocco
I was looking through my archives earlier today and came across this pic I put together on Polyvore last year sometime. It has a contemporary Moroccan flavour. Most of the items can be sourced from somewhere where you live and of course online. However, I can't say I have seen anything like that lovely black and white rug from CB2 in Australia. It's funky and affordable.

Wall Candy Wallpaper

Tranquil Celadon
I'm am really excited about this beautiful wallpaper which I am hoping to use in a new house we are building. It's a Graham Brown paper designed by Linda Barker. It is described as a "pretty floral pattern characterised with playful birds and butterflies". Yes, yes it is, but what about the colour combination, that's what drew me in first. The background colour is a soft dreamy mint and the floral pattern is a satin silver foil (computer images does not do it justice). It radiates a calming cool feeling. I can't stop looking at it. Wall Candy Wallpaper are opening a new store in Highgate (Beaufort Street, just down the road from the Brisbane Hotel) and I have just been told that they are throwing open their doors tomorrow with a little sale to get things going. Of course there will be an official opening later down the track but for those of you like me that can't wait and don't mind that the store is not quite finished there are rewards of 20% off!Wednesday, November 19, 2008
Lounge Releaf
Need a little lounge releaf?? This was a fun lounge room concept I designed inspired by a wonderful wallpaper from Wall Candy Wallper in North Fremantle. They stock a large range of Graham and Brown wallpapers.

Crosby Tiles Competition
Recently I submitted this bathroom design into the Crosby Tiles 'Student' Competition. It was quite interesting to submit work and be prepared to be judged. My theme was "I Love New York"and I drew my colour inspiration from the New York yellow cabs. The whole bathroom is tiled in glittering black Murano Glass mosaics. I adore black bathrooms, there is something mysterious and glamorous about them. The feature wall has a Tuxedo colour theme over the bathtub and appears to flow into the bath and over the edge. I chose a fabulous chandelier from Beacon Lighting, the Pinnacle to sit over the bath. I like the idea of blurring the line between bathroom and bedroom. Behind the wall is the business side of the bathroom with his and hers vanity and double shower cubicle. The wall hung vanity provides a burst of colour and showcases the counter top vanity design from Laufen's Alessi range and amazing tap ware from Newform all available from Sea of White in Perth.

Duckcloth
Oooo I wish, I wish I could sew!!! Anytime and every time I see amazing fabric designs I have an overwhelming desire to learn to sew. I did have a few lessons in high school and today I could manage a table runner or tablecloth. Even though I do find just cutting straight a challenge. But for all you sewers out there check out these super prints from Duckcloth.

Magnetic Curtain

Feeling artistic? Do you feel the need to sculpt something? Want to change the way your window treatment looks everyday? Well check out this amazing magentic curtain I first saw on Designer's Block's blog. The curtain is designed by Florian Kräutli. He said the Magnetic Curtain is "a curtain which you can shape to any form". He has embedded magnets in the curtain fabric allowing the user to shape the curtain. Love it.

Mozi

I came across Mozi via Decor 8 a few weeks ago. I'm loving everything blue and white and the moment and had to buy this gorgeous apron for a friend of mine (4?st birthday). It was the most fun I've had shopping in a long time. After dropping off her present I received this sms from her. "Gorgeous! 2 good 2 get choc icing on... might have 2 save it 4 the bedroom! Thanx so much. I love it."

I came across Pandora Design via an Italian home magazine Casaidea. It featured this plastic cutlery as "Plastica Chic" and I couldn't agree more. The gold cocktail squeezer - St Peter 8xmille is sooo cool. Their website is well worth a visit. Lots and lots of fabulous designs. No online store at this stage.

BenabeiFreeman
These lacy numbers are by BenabeiFreeman. Rina Bernabei and Kelly Freeman began working together in 2002. Between them they have industrial design and lighting backgrounds. Who would of thought perforated aluminium panels could be so beautifully decorative. The Peony Floor Lamp and the Lace Pendant Light are my favourites from these two amazing ladies. Click here to see all their designs. BenabeiFreeman products are distributed by Living Edge.

Star Rangehood

I noticed a good looking Smeg FA Porche Rangehood in last weekend Sunday Times New Homes section, which got me thinking. What is the best looking rangehood on the market. Well, for me, I think I found it! The Star from Elica Collection. I can't believe it is a rangehood, an elegant, sophisticated and decorative light fitting yes, but a rangehood? WOW.Monday, January 21, 2008
Fanuli Furniture
The Vogue Sideboard from Fanuli Furniture is one of those pieces I dream about owning. In my dream it sits in my bedroom and is clearly visible when I walk down the long hall way towards my bedroom. It sits there boldly and in perfect symmetry. Errr sorry, waking up now... it's made of solid timber and finished in a shiny silver lacquer. It is designed by an Italian company Grande Arredo . Very, very nice, don't you think?

Ikea Love Where You Live
Love where you live? This is Ikea's new promo to introduce their new bigger store right here in Perth. It is clever, fun and absolutely charming. Once you click on the Love Where You Live icon your journey begins. A new window opens up with a picture of a house, it then zooms into the front door and the doorbell rings. The lovely Mrs Woods opens the door and invites you into their world. From here you can choose different rooms in the house (via the floor plan icon) and see how the Woods family live. There are lots of clever features like lamps that switch on and off with a click of your mouse, window blinds that roll up and down and each family member talks and shares their room with you. My favourite is their dog Gustav's kennel. What a cool pad he has. You can upload your own pet's (or maybe your boyfriend's) picture into Gustav's picture frame and it will upload by the following day. That's a bit of a giggle. He has a fireplace and mantle complete with three stuffed cats heads above the mantle. They even meow when you run your mouse over them (no pun intended). The whole thing is charming, yes it is advertising but done so well. If you are anything like me you go to Ikea to pick up one thing or just pop in to have a look and end up going home with a boot load of stuff. My favourite Ikea piece at the moment is the Hemnes bedside table. It's a little sweety. It's made of white fibreboard with tempered glass top for $169 AUD. Of course it's not restricted to the bedroom, I can see it sitting beautifully next to a wing back chair with your favourite books and flowers piled up.

Cloth Fabric
Photo from Cloth
This beautiful linen and cotton blend upholstery fabric is inspired by one of our wonderful Australian trees the Golden Wattle. I was instantly drawn to the colour combination and its vintage vibe. This design is called Wattle Sunny and also comes in two other colours, Wattle Night (black and white combination) and Cloudy (grey and white). Cloth is a small independent company which works mainly with hemp and linen. Julie Paterson, owner and designer has been making screen printed textiles by hand since 1995.

Louise Tray

I came across this tray by Ibride via Elle Decor and followed the links to BurkeDecor.com. Each tray is constructed by applying high pressure laminate to an environmentally friendly, recycled wood core. It is gorgeous.
Mock Doily Plates

What a pretty collection ... ideally I would love to collect each plate individually and tell stories about how I found each and everyone one of them or how my grandmother left them to me or .... but that just isn't me! I must admit I adore the fact that I can buy the whole set in one go and change the ribbons whenever the mood strikes. Huh...reality bites. Victorian Set of 9 Plates from BurkeDecor.com USD125.
