Emma Hack

Being a Florence Broadhurst nut I stumbled across these beautiful works by Emma Hack. Emma is known as a body artist. I adore how the model disappears into the wallpaper. The Wallpaper collection was photographed by Emma herself. Yes, she has more than one talent...award winning body painting, sculpture and photography. Cant wait to see her works in Perth someday. Her art can be purchased through galleries in Australia and internationally. All images via Emma Hack.

Pica's Artist Car Boot Sale

Fornasetti

You are probably familiar with these divine black and white plates by Italian graphic artist and designer, Pierro Fornasetti. Once he began to make them he never stopped, eventually it became his trademark. I must admit they have had an effect on me, I can't stop looking at all the different variations. They have a Mona Lisa charm about them. I have one piece (not an original of course), already I feel the need to buy more. I feel an addiction lurking. If you are planning to invest go to Post Emporium in North Perth for an original or perhaps for something in that flavour try Behind the Monkey.

Tuesday, November 3

Lucky me, two thoughtful family members presented me with these wonderful giant "L"s. The first crafted by machine, the second was found lying on the ground while working the dog. Thank you lovely family.

Bathroom Concpet

Concept 1
Here are two concepts for a client whose brief was simply as follows "when I walk past the bathroom and look in, I want to see a beautiful basin". Concept 1 features the generously sized IO inset basin. It is designed to sit within the shelf. The organic curve of the underside of the basin is the eye catching factor. Next was the tapware and shower. Here again, I looked for curves. The El-X wall mixer and spout has a soft curve on the spout and the oval shaped back plate mimics the shape of the basin. For the shower I chose the Freehander for its tubular design. Plus it offers 'spa' like features. The shower pivots and rotates. Swing it up or swing it down, that's all it takes to to convert this shower into a body massage spray. Concept 2 (below) features the bold Alessi One Pedestal. The pedestal has a strong focal point ... the smooth, glossy white ceramic drum like shape has a timeless appeal.

Piatto Free Standing Shower

Superplan with anti slip decoration. Superplan Gold - 24 carat gold plating ornamentation.
The circular Piatto shower base (150cmx6cm) from Kaldewei is absolutely striking. It appears of be floating on the floor. And how about that gorgeous, luxurious shower curtain. It's all so dreamy. Hang on a minute...alarm bells are ringing. Shower bases and shower curtains are rarely described as luxurious. I do have faint memories of a dull, scratched shower base and mouldy shower curtain from many many years ago. Here's what they say: The shower plate is made of Kaldewei steel enamel. You can't scratch it if you tried. And the curtain is Teflon-coated taffeta with concealed magnets in the hem. This ensures the curtain falls straight and flush with the shower edge. It comes in 3 colours - bordeaux red, anthracite and chamois beige. And if still one requires more, the Superplans can be embellished with 24-karat gold plating on your request. Make it all mine...I mean yours! Keep an eye on this page for the Australian release.

Credenza

I'm a big Jamie Hayon fan. His sense of fun really appeals to me. The multi leg Showtime collection brings it all together, functional, whimsical and beautifully designed. Here are two others designers who meet that criteria too.
Image via Design Farm
"Jaime Hayon is the most intriguing figure in new Spanish design. He has energy, talent and a style of his own, which are all distilled into the Showtime collection. The multileg single or double credenza is a modular system allowing usage of multiple leg styles. Modules can be single or stacked 2 high". Excerpt from Design Farm.
Image via Interstudio
"Designed by Jason Bird, the Radii buffet is ideally made to complement the Nick table series. Locally produced with a combination of 2-pack lacquer to cupboard facings and oak veneer carcass surround which can be colour stained to match preferred finishes". Excerpt from Interstudio.
Image via Woodmark
"The 'Vissy' credenza is finished in high gloss two-pac polyurethane. It has changeable sliding doors (timber or fabric covered), enabling adaptability to changing seasons and environments. Drawing upon the antiquated furniture making technique of marquetry, Vissy's timber sliding doors is a reinterpretation of this into the contemporary format of a geometric circular pattern. The circles come alive as you move around the room, the light catches them similar to the way dandelions subtly grab your attention as they sway in the breeze. The fruit bowl morphing into the surface is a logical progression of enhancing the shininess, typifying the forms seen in ceramics, and creating an interesting dialogue between the surfaces." Excerpt from Woodmark.

Innermost Mantel Dome Clock

I'm digging this clock design from Top 3 by Design. The Mantel Dome is a modern interpretation of an old world carriage clock. Beautiful aren't they. It is a product of a collaboration between Cédric Ragot, of creative trio designedbyitem, and Innermost. Image via Top 3.

Ikea PS Spraka

I spied this spice mill at you know where. Available in Black and Birch. I rarely grind my own spices...who cares...it looks so darn good it can just sit on my kitchen bench and look the part.

Sunday, September 27

Here's a few more yummy lamps from Domayne. Great for the home office the Noir' Tripod Lamp, the Seville Table Lamp featuring a fabulous black and white striped shade and my favourite the Bravura Floor Lamp pictured with a a Eiffel Tower Decal.

Wednesday, September 23

Tord Boontje

More from Tord Boontje...I adore these beautiful lampshades. The Shadow Light will enchant young hearts. The lampshade gently turns and the images reflect onto the surrounding walls. The Garland Light shown here in dazzling gold consists of a long metal garland of flowers, forest creatures and foliage that is wrapped around a light bulb.

Pedlars - UK

How much fun are these? Comic Strip Plasters - 24 sterile, individually wrapped bandages in a tin and Loo roll holders - soft rubber holders for loo rolls, 34cm(l) x 19cm (w). Both from Pedlars in the UK. (They can send most items overseas, just email for a quote for postage.) Or try Gifted.

Monday, September 14

Domayne

Domayne finally opened up in Perth a few weeks ago. Of course I found an excuse to pop in and check out their range. As soon as you walk in your hit with these big bold pieces. The St Ives 3 seater sofa packs a punch - upholstered in Warwick's Portsea Onyx (other colours available). The Bravura floor lamp compliments the sofa perfectly with its silhouette curvy base.

Keep Calm and Carry On

Something strange has happened to me since the push to rid our planet of the dreaded plastic shopping bag. Once upon a time I would not give the plastic bag I was carrying a second thought. I would carry my groceries home in them, then re-use the bags as rubbish bin liners. THEN....the tote bag arrived. Sometimes free, sometimes $1 etc. Suddenly I cared where my Tote bag was from, what colour it was, and what it said. I wanted a Donna Hay bag, then Wayne Cooper bag, then, well I won't go on. It's just a bag to carry your groceries home in right? This Lark tote is exactly what I need. 'Keep Calm and Carry On'. Not another word needs to be said on the subject.

Wow...loving this black and white mesh sequin top/dress from My Catwalk. If you need something amazing in a hurry they deliver Australia wide 'next day' free!

Rocket St George

Diamantini & Domeniconi Striped Cuckoo Clocks

Skullduggery Chair

These two items from Rocket St George in London really appeal to me. I love the idea of giving a traditional piece of furniture a contemporary twist. The hand made Cuckoo Clock is designed in Italy by the famous clock manufacturers Diamantini and Domeniconi. It takes D batteries and the cuckoo can be switched off....not that you would! The Skullduggery chair would look right at home at my place and be a real talking point to boot.

Saturday, August 29

Now I know this is not the best pic, but this divine sparkling jewelled pendant light is on display in the shop window of Baker & Shuhandler in Mt Lawley. B&S have one of the best window displays in Perth. I have photographed many of their beautiful window displays with the intention of blogging, but my lack of photography skill (to many reflections) has let me down.

Monday, August 24

Alessi Dot

Mmmmm....loving this Il Bagno Alessi Dot floor standing wash basin in 'black' from Laufen. Designed by Dutch architect Wiel Aret, the slanted form gives the bulky ceramic unit a playful lightness.

Sunday, August 16

Black, Beautiful Black

I seem to be drawn to all things 'black' of late, this amazing lamp is from D'cota in NSW. Normally I would shy away from such luxurious, formal, mansion style furnishings. But a piece of two would be very nice, very nice indeed. Sofa - source unknown.

Saturday, August 15

Dreamy Bedroom

I have had this tear sheet lying around my desk for months. I love the relaxed, not trying to hard, chic styling. And of course I was instantly attracted to the gorgeous bedhead. Florence Broadhurst again...The Cranes. Stylist - Megan Morton. Still Lifes - Amanda Prior

Monday, August 10

Villeroy & Boch

What a lovely entrance to the bathroom. Symmetry, generous space and for me the perfect balance between contemporary and baroque style. Memento Basin in black from Villeroy & Boch.

Sunday, August 9

More Ikea...I adore these two pieces from Ikea, haven't spotted them in our local store yet but I'm sure they're not too far away. The Ikea PS Karljohan side table is made of solid wood. It could double up as foot stool to. I can imagne it working well in the bathroom, perhaps loaded with fluffy towels. I love the leg design on the Trollsta Tray Table. The turned legs seem to have reference to an antique furniture style. The tray is removable and has an extra wide edge and high sides; prevents spills and makes it easy to carry.

Ikea 2010

I popped into Ikea today hoping to get a glimpse of their new lines before the catalogue hits our mailboxes. The only thing I spotted is that gorgeous Maskros Pendant Lamp. So big, so pretty, so affordable! Feeling dissatisfied at not spotting more, I came home and checked out the Ikea US online catalogue. These are the pages that really popped for me. The Aust catalogue should arrive by the end of the month.

Tuesday, August 4

Grohe Icon

I went to Grohe hosted evening recently and was introduced to this amazing space age looking shower head. Grohe have bought something new to the table, the halo shape is inspiring. The Rainshower Icon has been awarded the prestigious Red Dot award for product design 2009. The Icon will be available in Aus within 12-18months from Argent Australia.

Monday, August 3

Until Dawn

This beautiful floral and fauna curtain panel by Tord Boontje would look wonderful hanging over my fly wire screen door. The panels are made from Tyvek (resistant paper material). The panel is tear and water resistant. Until Dawn (H250cm x W110cm) comes with velcro closure loops as well as holes to hang from hooks or poles. Just what a DYI sort of gal likes to hear. That gorgeous bedroom image was taken by Cornelia Adams via Desire to Inspire.

2009 Mademoiselle Cushion

I absolutely adore this screen printed cushion from Nordic Designs. A cushion which tells a story ..... Paris .... a man ... a beautiful women.... is she dreaming, or reminiscing? Mademoiselle you are on my wishlist.

Wednesday, July 22

I love those verge throw outs...my other half found this one a few months back. Finally got around to sanding and painting! Yippee.

Saturday, July 18

Ensuite Selection

Here is a bathroom concept and selection I have been working on for a lovely couple who are building the new home in Doubleview. The concept image is not fully detailed, however it still managers to show them how it all will look on completion. The gorgeous semi-recessed basins are from Parisi and Amio basin mixers are from Methven. The Unica 900mm shower rail from Hansgrohe and the Amio shower mixer complete the shower cubicle.

Circles

I'm really into circle shaped mirrors at the moment. Here's 4 different looks......all fabulous in their own right. The first pic shows off the Kaldewei Classic Duo bath. I love the way the owner's have introduced the circle mirror, it really pops for me. Image from Inside Out. The second pic has a whimsical feel about it, it's fun. And the third pic has a seriously 'cool' moody look. Image from Cibo. Lastly Keuco bathroom concpets from Germany. Enjoy

Monday, July 13

Ross Lovegrove

1. Mercury Drops. 2. Supernatural Chair.
I was speaking to a designer from down Margaret River way the other week and she mentioned that she loves Ross Lovegrove's Tear Drops shower head and asked if I had seen it. Well, no I hadn't but after a few minutes of 'googling' I was up to speed and wow it's amazing and like nothing I've seen before. His designs are described as "organic essentialism" and yes they are fluid and they relate to the natural world in a futuristic way.

Saturday, July 11

Black in the Bathroom

Is black as safe as white in the bathroom? Porcelain white basins/baths are universal, no matter what your preferred style is, you can never go wrong. Does this apply to black? I think it just might. Here's the Ellipso free standing bath in black from Kaldewei and Villeroy & Boch Memento basins (glossy black and New Glory).

Monday, July 6

Jamie Hayon

Jamie Hayon is a fantastic designer, he always offers the 'wow' factor. The Josephine Queen Chandeliers and Lamps are amazing. I adore the balance and combination of the glossy porcelain bases and shades. There is something provocative about the shape. Something irresistible.

Florence Broadhurst

Cranes, Japanese Floral, Horse Stampede, Solar, Turnabout, Honeycombe Circle and Squares,
Florence Broadhurst, Her Secret & Extraordinary Lives book has been out for sometime now. And of course it is loved and reviewed on many many blogs. My copy has been read, loved, used as a reference and inspiration over and over again. I particularly like to have it open on a certain page which tends to reflect what sort of mood I'm in or perhaps what sort of mood I want to be in. The the last few weeks I have it opened on the pages 70 & 71 --- Horses Stampede. I also like to encourage everyone else in the house to leave the book open on a page that they love. Her designs are vivid, daring and challenging. I suppose the more these designs thrill you the more you realise how tired and restricted the minimalist look of the late 90's was. As we have seen Florence Broadhurst wallpaper designs have jumped from the wall to pillows, rugs, curtains, handbags and even coffee mugs. I loving it all! Currently on my wishlist is a set of Japanees Floral coffee mugs (red).

Rory Table Lamp

I've just started window shopping for a table lamp and came across this sweetie from Matt Blatt. The Rory Lamp is 62cm high and has a satin black iron base. It is on sale for $65. Matt Blatt has a huge range of replica designer furniture, lighting, and accessories. Definitely worth a browse.
